ABSTRACT: Knowledge became the most important asset for organizations. Many
authors state that the source of competitive advantage is not even the
knowledge but the knowledge increase. The present inquiry is concerned with
the individual learner within the organizational context. First a
preliminary model is created by applying the systems approach to cognitive
psychology description of knowledge. By examining the knowledge as a system
and the learning as process within this system three models are developed:
The Model of Learning Willingness examines the absorption of new knowledge
on the plane of organizational and personal value systems also concerning
their interaction. The Model of Learning Capability examines how the
existing knowledge (i.e. the personal knowledge before the learning)
affects the learning. The Model of Attention is an analysis of the
cognitive and motivational factors of attention; i.e. what are the
cognitive and motivational conditions for the person to be able to pay
attention, assuming, that (s)he is willing to pay attention. These three
models are integrated into a fourth one, the Model of Learning Ability. For
illustration the models are simulated with Doctus Knowledge-Based System.
