Sarah
I there is nothing in the safety data sheets for either engerix or hep b vax to
suggest that there might be any problem associated with this. Apart from the
psychological side I cannot see any problems, I also agree with Alan in checking
with your microbiologist which would give added reassurance.
Cheers

Hi all
Can anyone help me on the subject of MMR. A pregnant nurse is giving the
vaccination and is immune to rubella. Are there any indications to
suggest she should not be administrating this vaccine? There is no
relevant info in the imms green book.
Thanks sarah

I totally agree with all the comments on this. My current view
and practice is based upon discussions with Microbiologists in that if
you have a documented response >100 miu/ml you are okay, whether you've
had a booster or not. It's the result that counts.
There's lots of views and evidence to support boosters after 5
years; not at all; keep having one every 5 years, but in the end if you
undertake EPP you must have documented evidence of a sufficient
response.
There are many problems with this, for example, some people have
a good response to the primary course, and then after 5 years a blood
test shows no immunity at all. A single booster would not technically
bring the level up sufficiently.
I have also had staff who's level has actually gone down
following a booster. Then there's folk, myself being one, who's primary
course was 15 years ago, and never having a booster still have a
response over 100.
It seems that the level is also different in other countries,
and even in Scotland where a response over 10 is sufficient. I'd be
grateful if someone could confirm this.
I fear I've not answered the original question but probably
caused more confusion, but I've found that tends to be the way in OH,
nothing is black and white, but shades of grey.
Regards
Glenn
