Glenn,
We are guided by DH directive link below.
Essentially we should copy all letters to patients, however in practrice we just offer or in my case dictate whilst the patient is with me

Subject: Letters
Morning all
If you write to a manager about an employee, for example following a
sickness absence referral, do you always send a copy to the member of staff
as well?
As a general I do not, but more and more staff are now asking for a copy of
the letter, which I have no problem with, and with the increasing cases
being brought by employees etc I have no doubt this will increase, so I am
wondering if it would make more sense to send a copy of any letters to the
employee as a matter of routine.
I am curious as to what others do in regard to this.
Have a good weekend
Glenn
