Hi Joanne
We follow much the same process but our Schools fund the GP reports of
about £59.00. On average it is usually about 5-7% of each intake who
require these.

Subject: Pre course screening - teacher trainees.
Following paper screening of prospective teacher trainees, if it is felt
that further medical information is needed, our current procedure is to
request a GP report before inviting the student to attend for an
appointment with an Occupational Health Advisor. The students are
expected to pay for the GP report themselves (usually around £10 - 20).
I have a prospective student who is refusing to obtain and pay for the
report himself, and is questioning the fairness of this system (which I
believe was introduced as a result of the huge volume of applicants for
teacher training courses each year, many of whom fail to take up their
places on the course and so are therefore screened unnecessarily). I can
see the student's point, and am interested to know how others manage
this process.
Any thoughts....?
