I would refer your employee to a respiratory specialist. There is a variety
of test that can be done, depending upon factors that the specialist will
need to determine.
You state that the employee is using respiratory protection. I assume that
this has been selected to be appropriate to the potential exposure and that
you have done fit testing to ensure that the respiratory protection is
actually working. (Of course, this is a legal requirement anyway.)
You should also have someone check the extraction/ventilation to see that
this is also producing the desired effect. In my experience I see many
extraction/ventilation systems that are not only not eliminating the
contaminant, but are actually spreading it around and thus increasing
exposure. If you want some guidance on this, try consulting the excellent
