I'd no direct involvement but the general opinion in Dublin is that they
got 35m in government funding but failed to live up to their part of the
deal and raise corporate funding, the days of blank cheques are long
gone and as they failed to engage with the public and other
universities were seen to succeed in attracting research partners

where MLE failed it was easy to let go.
Oh btw Eric we had ' a Centre for New Media Culture in Dublin with
proper European *roots*...' it was called Arthouse, they closed that
down a few years ago for similar reasons
