Thompson was nearly forgotten here in the US but not, I gather
elsewhere, especially in the UK. At most he was our crazy uncle that
others found charming but then they didn't have to live with him and
his guns. It occurred to me though that he may have been something like
our version of Joseph Beuys and "gonzo" similar in intent to Beuys'
"social sculpture". So the idea of a "folksonomy" is understandable.
But then we have to remember that Thompson was, most agree, an
exemplary reporter and Beuys slept with a coyote. Or, to put it another
way, "to live outside the law you must be honest".
