The elephant in the room:
bringing innovation into RFID
Can we continue to develop RFID applications as technology push and
contend with the consequences, or do we create something innovative?
In this half day seminar, Rob van Kranenburg and Gill Wildman explore
the space for opportunity-creating, human-centred innovation in RFID
applications.
Tuesday 22nd March 1.00 - 3.30pm
Design Council, 34 Bow Street, London WC2E 7DL

We know that businesses are faced with challenges in bringing new
technologies into their products and services to create new sources
of value. But is tagging and inventory tracking all it can do?
Current RFID pilots appear to be merely technology push - not
innovation driven development - missing new business opportunities in
products and services that could delight customers and inspire staff.
It's like there is an elephant in the room, and no-one has noticed it.
It's no doubt that RFID has the potential to be a paradigm-shifting technology.
Often such technologies demand a change in behaviour from not only
the user but also the business or organisation implementing it. Just
look what happened with computing and the web.
There are some great lessons from previous technology paradigm shifts
that we can access now.
The challenge for us is do we continue to develop RFID applications
with this technology push approach, or do we utilise the knowledge
that already exists to create something entirely new, creating wider
and more substantial benefits?
We are holding a seminar on why innovation in RFID needs new
approaches and methods. We would like to share with you why
innovation driven RFID development can meet business needs and and
create better services that can offer new opportunities to businesses
and organisations.
Rob van Kranenburg and Gill Wildman are design and innovation
consultants who have been extensively researching this area,
identifying trends and pitfalls that are emerging. They have fresh
insights into how people respond to new paradigms and extensive
experience of bringing human-centred innovation into new technology
developments.
