Friday 9th September 6-6.30pm
South Bank, London
The project runs from 30th August onwards during the Thames Festival 17th and 18th
September and beyond.
This Thames Festival commissioned public art project by artists Shona
Watt and Pete Gomes in conjunction with 16 schools across South London
has just been installed between the London Eye and Tate Modern.
The project combined art and technology in the classroom, combining drawing and computer
manipulation but rooted in art history and the study of a wide range of contemporary and
historical painters as source material for the designs.
It is a 'treasure hunt' with a series of clues to be discovered on
each 2m high board aimed at 8-10 year olds. Each board was conceived
to incorporate a different theme around the Thames, and used a different artist as a reference
point for each design, which were produced during 64 workshops with South London schools.
