Hi,
The "Unstable Grounds - Curating New Media" thread in empyre has brought me here.
My Institute have began to plan the next Emoção Art.ficial (a Brazilian art/technology biennial; ref.: http://www.itaucultural.org.br/emocaoartficial%5Fexpo/), and we are trying to resolve a bunch of dilemmas, mainly those related with curatorial strategies. Here in Brazil the new media art production is extremely rarefied. But this is not the point, as the biennial is an international event.
I'm following the last discussions about this fascinating topic, as Tate Modern's "Curating, Immateriality, Systems: On Curating Digital Media". In their site, I've came across with some rationales, as the one that compares the network art curating with a "team job". We have tried a distributed curating model in the last Emoção Art.ficial, in which we have invited Jeffrey Shaw for co-curate the exhibition with two native curators.
But this model did not worked perfectly, as the two natives curators, taking advantage of their geopolitical situation, monopolized the process. We are open to repeat the model next year, but with some modifications. Maybe we are open to try a model whereby the Institute's new media staff could work as co-curator with one or two international curators.
Anybody here have tried a similar model?
Best wishes,
