On 12 January 2005, in the context of post-tsunami reconstruction, I
expressed a concern regarding corruption and the management of development
assistance.
Transparency International's aim of curbing corruption and of introducing
reform of corrupt systems is this year directed at corruption in
construction, the industry sector regularly rated as the most corrupt.
"Global Corruption Report 2005" focuses on "Corruption in Construction and
Post-conflict Reconstruction" and includes items on earthquake destruction,
corruption in practice throughout development finance, reconstruction in
Iraq, civil, oil and electricity engineering, and construction generally.
There are forty country reports and twenty-five items on research on
corruption. No country is exempt from scrutiny.
The "Global Corruption Report 2005" is published by Pluto Press, London
(ISBN 0 7453 2396 0) at £19.99 / US$29.95 plus p&p and is also published in
French (ISBN 2 7178 5025 2)
