It never rains but it pours: lots happening now!
Dear Colleague
On behalf of the National Institute of Mental Health in England and the
Department of Health we would like to alert you to a National Conference
taking place on February 22, 2006 on
Delivering Race Equality (DRE): Research, Policy and Practice. The
conference will take place at the Gallery Suite, NEC, Birmingham.
Delivering Race Equality in Mental Health Care is an action plan for
achieving equality and tackling discrimination in mental health services
in
England for all people of Black and minority ethnic status, including
those
of Irish or Mediterranean origin and east European migrants.
It draws on three key recent publications in particular:
Inside Outside: Improving Mental Health Services for Black and Minority
Ethnic Communities in England;
Delivering Race Equality: A Framework for Action; and
the independent inquiry into the death of David Bennett (although DRE
itself is not a direct response to the inquiry's report).
The aims of the day are to share progress and learning from the
implementation of Delivering Race Equality, provide an overview of the
evidence base for DRE, showcase research specific to DRE, look at ways
of
implementing policy into practice and provide networking opportunities.
This conference is aimed at mental health service providers and
commissioners, service users and carers, voluntary organisations
providing
services and support for service users and carers, researchers with an
interest in mental health in black and minority ethnic groups
