STS Workshop, 12 May, Discussion with Dominique Pestre (EHESS, Centre Koyre,
Paris)
The STS Workshop on the 12th May will be in a new 'in conversation' format.
Dominique Pestre has written extensively on the history of 20th century
science, and the history of physics in particular. He is perhaps best known
to an anglophone audience for his work on the history of CERN, and as
co-editor of the compendious Science in the Twentieth Century (1997). Recent
works in French include Sciences pour la guerre, 1940-1960 (2004) and
Science, argent et politique: un essai d'interprétation (2003).
The Workshop will be an opportunity to raise any relevant aspect of his work
in an informal and enjoyable setting.
To get the ball rolling, Dominique has sent two new, brief and provocative
essays: 'Radically broadening the frame of our analyses: The field of STS,
the political, and contemporary techno-science', and 'The technosciences
between markets, social worries and the political : how to imagine a better
future?'
Copies of these essays are available from Jon Agar ([log in to unmask])
The STS Workshops are held on Thursdays, 12 noon to 1.30pm in Seminar Room
2, Department of History and Philosophy of Science
