Dear friends,
Andrew Marr, BBC political editor, said this week that
news is like fast food.
This inspired my 'anger poem'. I wrote it to clear my
soul.
Enjoy, have the most fabulous weekend.
all the best
Sigi

THE NEWS IS LIKE FAST FOOD
or:
Andrew is leaving

the news is like fast food
said the rat grinning
wiping its paws

I had too much of it myself, he said
I was producing it
now I criticise it

news needs to be fast
to be exciting
grinned the rat.

News is like fast food
my body swollen with scraps of rotting food
thrown together quickly without much
thought or love

fast food created in minutes
eaten in seconds
digested in the long early hours,
for days.
I lived on it, religiously: lunch time. 6 o’clock.
News at 10.

My mind is filled with scraps of fast food news
never digested, inside my intestines,
embedded, like shrapnel

a young black woman,
a burning tyre around her midst, South Africa
it still makes me cry, she
dancing her death, for us, the camera

the eyes of the Ethiopian students forced into army
lorries
a few weeks ago
lips mouthing help us please help us
I write a weak letter - I weep in my dreams

my guts swollen and still swelling
my body’s gasses stink to heaven
filled with news that is
like fast food

The news is like fast food
said the expert rat,
he is leaving the ship
goes to shores anew
where he can show us
that he can think, he said.
Is that what it is about? Himself?

He has fed us old morsels, left overs
from a prime minister’s tale with whom he got on too
well,
seemed like his mouthpiece really
rat understands the emperor’s mind

Didn’t hear us shouting: "But he doesn’t wear any
clothes!”
Bare bottom emperor and reporter rat stagger arm in
arm towards
a throne.

News is like fast food.
You fed us fast food, you rat.
