Subject: Wanted: TRA/BBC Children's Radio Clubs Co-ordinator for North East
England
The Reading Agency is a national library development agency set up three
years ago with the aim of bringing more reading to more people through
libraries and their partners.
The Reading Agency is looking for a consultant to co-ordinate a regional
pilot of BBC7 Children's Library Radio Clubs in the North East of England.
This initiative is part of the BBC Radio 4/BBC 7 Libraries Partnership and
sits alongside the national Listening Posts Project also being developed as
part of this partnership.
Funded by ACE and the BBC in partnership with TRA and the library
authorities of Newcastle, Sunderland and North Tyneside, the project will
pilot the development of library based radio clubs for 8-13 year olds. The
clubs will enable children who wouldn't normally have access to broadcast
opportunities to learn how to use basic radio equipment to record simple
interviews, observations and sound postcards about their locality, their
reading/book interests and related themes, places and people.
This groundbreaking work requires an experienced and confident consultant
who has:
. knowledge of the library sector,
. knowledge and experience of radio,
. a highly professional approach,
. the ability to inspire and motivate children and young people,
. first class communication skills,
. passion for and knowledge of reading and radio.
The contract for a Radio Library Clubs Co-ordinator is offered on a
self-employed basis to a contractor working from their own office. It is
estimated that the work will take 46 days over the year. A fee of £9,200
plus travel expenses is offered from January-December 2006.
TIMESCALE
Applications need to reach us by 2 December and interviews are scheduled for
the week of 5 December in Newcastle.
