Eastenders 20th Anniversary Conference:
Inventing the Modern Soap

A major one day conference, jointly organised by the Communication and
Media Research Institute of the University of Westminster and BBC
Heritage. This is the latest in a series of seminars and conferences
associated with the AHRB-sponsored project, led by Professor Jean Seaton
to produce volume 6 of the official history of the BBC. This conference
will bring together some of original team responsible for Eastenders
together with academics and other commentators, to assess the
establishment of this landmark programme and its continuing place at the
centre of British broadcasting.

Exploring Eastenders-academic reactions
Doing Eastenders-scripting, directing, producing the programme
Eastenders, Publicity and the Press-press reactions, media strategies
Discussion: Launching the Public Service Soap—teenage pregnancy, publicity
and social action
