ESRC New Femininities’ Seminar Series.
The next event in this series of six seminars will take place in Room M30
at the St Matthias Campus of the University of the West of England
(Bristol) on Friday September 16th. Attendance is free, including coffee,
lunch and tea, and limited to 30 people.
This seminar series explores some of the contemporary transformations in
young women's lives. It aims to bring together academics from a diverse
range of disciplinary backgrounds (eg sociology, psychology, media and
communication studies, education, youth and cultural studies, geography) as
well as policymakers and practitioners (eg in youth organisations,
charities and campaigning groups) to think about whether and in what ways
young women's lives are changing.
The topic for this seminar is ‘Sexual Citizenship and Sexual
Subjectification’. The day will be introduced at 11.00 a.m by Jane Arthurs
(UWE) followed by presentations from Ros Gill (LSE), Petra Boynton (UCL),
Lesley Hoggart (Policy Studies Institute) and Debbie Epstein (Cardiff).
Estella Tincknell (UWE) will chair the concluding discussion.
