• A major conference aimed at trade unionists, media campaigners and
community activists who want a stronger, more independent BBC.
• Organised by the TUC, Federation of Entertainment Unions and the
Campaign for Press and Broadcasting Freedom. Introduced by TUC general
secretary Brendan Barber.
• Presentation of the government’s white paper on the renewal of the BBC
Charter - how the BBC should be run, funded and regulated in the digital
age.
• Debates led by senior figures within the BBC and its staff unions on the
likely impact of changing structures, job cuts and outsourcing of
programme-making.
• Elaboration of a broad-based campaign to defend the BBC as the flagship
of public service broadcasting.
