Gothic Nightmares, Fusili, Blake and the Romantic Imagination
Dear Visual Media visitors,
The exhibition "Gothic Nightmares, Fusili, Blake and the Romantic
Imagination", is sheduled for running from 15 februari till 1 mai 2006.
For information see http://www.visual-media.be/exhibition.html
"A special section of the exhibition will present a recreation of a
‘Phantasmagoria’ show – a kind of animated slide-show with sound effects
and shocking images – giving visitors to the exhibition a chance to
experience at first hand the same chills and thrills as their forebears in
the 1800s" Tate's info.
Yesterday's announcement of "Schaulust: Sehmaschinen, Optische Theater &
andere Spektakel", (http://www.visual-media.be/publications.html) is also
featuring a Phantasmagoria projection.
For those who missed the exhibitions in Köln and London, "SCHAULUST" will
be a unique opportunity to discover the Werner Nekes collection of Media
History.
Compared to both, the exhibition in Cologne and "Eyes, Lies and Illusions"
in the Hayward Gallery London, "Schaulust" will be enriched with many more
items.
"Gothic Nightmares... will explore the work of Henry Fuseli (1741–1825) and
William Blake (1757–1827) in the context of the ‘Gothic’, the taste for
fantastic and supernatural themes which dominated British culture from
around 1770 to 1830. Featuring over 120 works by these artists and their
contemporaries, the exhibition will create a vivid image of a period of
cultural turmoil and daring artistic invention" Tate's info.
Best greetings,
Thomas
