Content Management Systems - an eLearning Group meeting at the National Gallery
Friday 30 September 2-4pm
We will begin with short demonstrations of two different types of
CMSs. Patrick Towell from Simulacra will talk us briefly through
OpenHarmonise and Peter Pavement of Surface Impression will show a newly
developed CMS designed around small to medium sized cultural
institutions. Discussion will then focus on ways of using CMSs
effectively, in what circumstances they are useful and/or cost effective,
and so on.
This is not intended to be a technical discussion. It is aimed at people
working in cultural institutions who are considering using or already
working with CMSs to develop or maintain their websites.
As usual the meeting is free of charge but limited to 15 people including
discussion facilitators, with a maximum of one person from each institution
or organisation. Please email Martin Bazley (not the whole list) if you
would like to attend.
Travel information available at www.nationalgallery.org.uk Arrival
instructions will be emailed to those attending.

Larger meeting
This is likely to be a very popular topic so we are considering holding a
larger meeting in the near future. If you would like to attend please let
me know so that we can gauge interest - also if you would like to offer a
venue or know of someone who could talk through their experiences of using
a CMS.
One other idea for a future meeting is a similar discussion around current
and projected use of Virtual Learning Environments in cultural
institutions. Again an indication of your interest in this would be useful.
If you are not sure what the difference is between a VLE and CMS - better
come along on 30 Sep...
