Hi Julie,
From my days as an editor with the educational website design company
Actis - now part of the Pearson publishing group - I know that several
of their designers/web developers who created games for museum websites
are now freelance.
A couple you might like to contact are:

Subject: Re: Consultant: Writing for the Web
Dear All,
I would like some advice on developing an online java/flash based
modular game for our website. At the moment it's in 'idea' stage & i
would like to work on this with a designer to develop the first module.
The game is aimed at the 8-16 age group and i would like to use the
development of a simple first module to evaluate it's effectiveness for
informal learning (& possibly for formal learning in later levels if we
develop more), relating this to SEMLAC's Inspiring Learning For All
framework, and to explore possibilities for this kind of provision
online.
Please don't laugh too hard but i am looking at a budget of around
£2000 & i am wondering how much this would allow us to do.
If anyone can advise, or is interested or could recommend someone to
talk to, please get in touch ASAP. SEMLAC's creativity grants fit the
bill rather well but their deadline is today! I think we have a great
idea (courtesy of a 14yr old i know!) and i have done lots of thinking
& some background research but i am in need of technical advice!
With many thanks,
Julie Ellis
