Hi everyone
Final word of caution from someone with a declared interest in audioguides and other mobile interpretation.
Some years ago I managed a site which used 100s of CD players - these were bespoke designs: however heavy usage meant employing at least two full-time technicians to continually repair them!
OK, so if they are cheap enough and you only need a small number of them, then that might be a cheap and cheerful short-term solution: your ongoing expenses will be the headsets (which are unhygenic) and prone to breaking plus the CDs themselves which will get scratched.
If you are thinking of using them in larger numbers or expect them to last for a number of years, forget it.
Moreover, off-the-shelf products such as MP3 players and CD players are for private not public use - I assume that we are all talking about a public institution giving players out to the general public. So, just try taking them back or sending for repair under the manufacturers' guarantee once they learn that!
Lastly, how are you going to protect your content if you sell the player (and audio CD/MP3/WAV/WMA files)?
Just a thought.
Robbie :-)
