Dear Colleague
Aslib is pleased to announce that the 2005 programme of events is available 
on the web site at www.aslib.com/training.  The new courses we are offering 
for 2005 are:
- Information Architecture: An Introduction (half day workshop)
- Enterprise Information Architecture (half day workshop)
- Appraisal Skills
- Coaching Skills
- Corporate Taxonomies
- Designing Training Sessions
- Running Training Sessions
- The Ten Step Marketing Toolkit
- Understanding Information Needs
- Using Networking Skills to Improve your Information Service (half day 
workshop)

The year’s programme will begin with the following courses:

FEBRUARY:
8th : Basic Cataloguing and Indexing (www.aslib.com/training/4/02.html)
An introductory course on how to make records for all kinds of 
information-bearing materials for inclusion in catalogues and databases.

9th: The Invisible Web: Where Search Engines Fear to Go 
(www.aslib.com/training/6/05.html)
The invisible web gives information professionals a great opportunity to 
demonstrate that they can add value to an organisation by developing an 
expert knowledge of the wide range of web resources that Internet searchers 
may well miss. This course will give you an overview of what the invisible 
web is and how you can use it.

14th: British Official Publications (www.aslib.com/training/1/02.html)
What exactly is a white paper?  How is draft legislation examined and passed 
into law?
What are statutory instruments and how are they examined? What is the 
difference between parliament and government? If your organisation needs to 
keep abreast of current developments in parliament and government, then this 
course is for you.

15th: Designing Training and Coaching Sessions NEW 
(www.aslib.com/training/2/02.html)
This programme will enable you to design effective training and coaching 
sessions. You will find out about the training cycle and this is used as a 
framework for the development of effective training in information and 
library services.

16th: Running Training and Coaching Sessions NEW 
(www.aslib.com/training/2/11.html)
This programme will enable you to deliver and evaluate effective training 
and coaching sessions. You will briefly explore the practical aspects of 
implementing training and coaching sessions e.g. financial side of training, 
selecting a trainer, health and safety. You will explore working in 
one-to-one and small group situations using the principles of coaching and 
training. You will also consider how to effectively run training sessions 
using ICT.

17th : Evaluating Digital Information (www.aslib.com/training/4/13.html)
The ability to acquire external information appropriate to your 
organisation's needs is a skill that no enterprise can afford to be without. 
The competitiveness of business and the fast pace of change have increased 
the need for rapid access to high quality information. The ease of access to 
the Internet and the exponential growth of information available have 
increased the amount of choice. If you are involved with the purchase of 
information products, this course is essential.

18th: Classification Practice (www.aslib.com/training/4/04.html)
If you have some experience of subject indexing, but need guidance or 
practice or want to refresh knowledge gained some time ago, this course will 
give you the skills needed. Participants are invited to bring typical 
material from their collections to form a group of items that can be 
considered in the practical sessions. Where an in-house scheme is used, it 
may be appropriate to bring a copy of the scheme to the course. Major themes 
throughout the course are your users, your collection and tailoring the 
approach to meet their needs.
