21-22 February
Information audit
Speakers: Guy Johnson & Vivienne Winterman
The knowledge and information audit is a management tool with a serious
business purpose. It plays a crucial role in the development of knowledge
management initiatives. It is invaluable to the development of information
rich activities such as Customer Relationship Management and Freedom of
Information processes. It helps ensure that information and knowledge
services are aligned to critical business needs and it is essential to the
development of information and knowledge strategies. This is a highly
interactive two day course that looks at the audit process in the context of
organisations and helps delegates assess their objectives and select
appropriate approaches for an audit in their organisation. A variety of
techniques are explored, as are the skills required for a successful audit.
Fee: GBP 650 + VAT

23 February
Influencing your stakeholders
Speaker: Elizabeth Lank
As awareness of knowledge and information as strategic assets grows in many
organisations, information professionals are working with an ever wider
group of stakeholders. It is essential that senior information managers have
the skills necessary to influence these stakeholders. From making business
cases to senior management to teaching line managers to handle information
in new ways to encouraging colleagues to share information across
boundaries, communication and change management skills are becoming
increasingly important as core competencies.
This one day workshop will offer you a number of tools and techniques to
help you increase your ability to influence the stakeholders that matter to
you. It will give you the opportunity to explore the challenges of
influencing behaviour and culture within an organisation and help you
develop your skills as an effective communicator and change agent.
Course fee: GBP 495 + VAT

25 February
Knowledge management foundation course
Speaker: Adrian Dale
This one day course provides an introduction to the concepts and practice of
knowledge management. Knowledge management has matured as a management
discipline now that it has been proven to deliver value to organisations.
This course will demystify the field and provide the basic grounding
delegates need to work in the area. They will be introduced to the language
of knowledge management, the principles that underpin it and its practical
application across all sectors of the economy.
Fee: GBP295 + VAT

28 February
Contract negotiation
Speaker: Pamela Clark
Information managers who have contract negotiation responsibility within
their brief are finding it hard to develop the skill set necessary for this
demanding task. Companies who operate in the global marketplace rightly want
their business deals to reflect that global marketplace in price, content
and technology. On the "sell" side local account teams are expected to
respond on behalf of their global organisation but within a reward structure
that often does not reflect that customer expectation. Successful
negotiation of contracts demands a clear understanding of the brief,
recognition of the business context and the ability to translate service
requirements into specific deliverables. At this crucial stage in the
information business it is sometimes difficult to identify the issues in
contract negotiation, never mind know how to deal with them. This course
offers the opportunity to identify what is happening in the market place and
helps you learn some of the necessary skills.
Course fee: GBP295 + VAT

01 March
Understanding and researching listed companies
Speaker: Sylvia James
Undertaking excellent research on listed companies is one of the most
important areas of business information. It is essential for all business
information professionals to understand the whole listing process. Listed
companies are generally the largest companies in any country's economy. They
are also the companies that are required to disclose the most information,
by virtue of the way their shares are offered for sale to the general
public, usually through a stock exchange. This course explains the process
of listing and examines the current situation in the world stock markets.
Explaining shares and bonds, it also looks at corporate failures, then goes
on to explore the sources, documents and services that can be used to
research any listed company on any stock exchange in the world.
Course fee: GBP295

Internet tools for the advanced searcher
Speaker: Phil Bradley
This one day course reviews searching techniques both with and without
search engines and covers more specialised areas such as mailing lists,
newsgroups, intelligent search agents, finding people and images and offers
additional hints and tips for better and quicker searching. The course is
continually updated to include the latest information, details of new search
engines and enhancements to existing ones together with techniques for
efficient searching and coverage of new resources.
Fee: GBP295 + VAT
