Thank you for all your comments and questions.
Here are some responses:
What does the acronym ISIM stand for?
-------------------------------------
Information Strategy & Information Management. But you should
be aware that we do plan to incorporate this service with a
different name.
What's in it for us?
--------------------
We plan a range of services and products for which we will
charge, including an enhanced membership option at some stage.
We will also offer advertising opportunities. I can confirm
that we are not a charity.
When will we charge?
--------------------
When those products and services are ready. We hope to retain
the free basic membership option. Remember that Yahoo, Google
and even Microsoft all offer some free services, with the ability
to upgrade to paid options.
We wish to build up the Community as fast as we can and the free
membership level gives us a chance to do that.
Who set it up?
--------------
Please read our IC! at http://informationcity.com/about/
It tells you about the founders and our background. It also
contains a list of 15 goals and visions.
Where is our full privacy policy?
---------------------------------
Apologies for that, it should be on the site. I will ensure that
it is.
Why should information professionals trust their personal
information to this new organisation?
---------------------------------------------------------
That's for each individual to decide after doing their due
diligence. You face the same issues with any organization, not
just new ones.
ISIM has been going since 1997, and, though I hate to say it,
collectively, Gunnel Stjernvall and I have over 70 years'
relevant experience.
Why doesn't CILIP develop something like this?
-----------------------------------------------
They can. We wish to develop a global community, not just a UK one.
By the way, regarding "free lunches," another saying springs to
my mind:
"Never look a gift horse ....."
Hope this helps.
Regards,
Stuart Urwin
