Since no-one appears to have commented on this in the light of the
discussion at the AGM I wanted to mention a couple of points (I recognise
that discussion may have continued elsewhere).
The scale of the increase was raised at the meeting on behalf of the
Affiliated members group, and commented on by a few members present,
including myself. I agree that this is a steep rise and certainly one that
shouldn't be repeated - without very good reason.
It was reported at the meeting that affiliated members are currently the
largest group of new members and I believe that we shouldn't do anything
that upsets that growth in membership.
That said I did accept the Treasurer's argument in relation to the cost of
servicing members (a point he made for life members too). However, I think
we need to know more about the benefit affiliates get from membership -
especially so for those not seeking ACLIP.
I also asked about progress with the transition to flat rate subscriptions
and was assured that everything is on track!
