BLISS CLASSIFICATION ASSOCIATION
ANNUAL LECTURE
The BCA Annual Lecture 2005 will be delivered by Alistair Miles,
Rutherford Appleton Laboratory
“Simple Knowledge Organisation System (SKOS)”
SKOS is part of the W3C Semantic Web Best Practices and Deployment Working
Group. Its objective is to provide a simple yet powerful framework for
expressing knowledge organisation systems in a machine-understandable way
using the Resource Description Framework. SKOS enables the representation
of both basic structure and content of concept schemes (thesauri,
classification schemes, subject heading lists, taxonomies, terminologies,
glossaries and other types of controlled vocabulary), and is an important
example of convergence of conceptual structures and W3 technology.
The lecture will take place immediately after the AGM of the Bliss
Classification Association at 2.15 p.m. on Friday 25 November 2005, in the
New Seminar Room, University of London Library, Senate House, Malet Street,
London WC1E 7HU.
Refreshments are provided, and both BCA members and non-members are
welcome. No advance booking is necessary, but any queries to Vanda
Broughton at [log in to unmask]
