Subject: [LIS-NURSING] NLH Resource Alert - BNF for Children
Dear all - apologies for cross-posting.
Please see the information below regarding the launch of a new service licensed for the NHS - the technical team has indicated that they will be making the site live from about 5.30 this afternoon.
Resource
BNF for Children
Change
Launch of new resource - available at www.bnfc.nhs.uk for NHS staff
Date of change
20th September 2005
Purpose/Reason
BNF for Children has been developed to meet the clinical requirements of GPs, paediatricians, pharmacists, nurses, students and all healthcare professionals involved in the prescribing, dispensing, monitoring and administration of medicines to children. This new paediatric resource provides reliable advice on the use of medicines in children of all ages.
Many medicines essential for treating childhood conditions are not
licensed for use in children and very often information about their use is not widely available. BNF for Children addresses these deficits in practical information. It is carefully constructed to be accessible to healthcare professionals across primary and secondary care and will help to enhance the quality of medicinal care offered to children.
The BNF for Children is a joint publication of the British Medical Association (BMA), Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain (RPSGB), Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (RCPCH) and the Neonatal and Paediatric Pharmacists Group (NPPG). It will be updated annually.
Recommendation
This resource is freely available to NHS staff with an NHS Athens username and password - they will see it listed on their MyAthens page at http://www.athensams.net/myathens/ <http://www.athensams.net/myathens/> - and links will appear soon on the NeLH and NLH websites. Please publicise and highlight in your training sessions, etc, where appropriate.
Access will also be available for the public in England - via http://bnfc.org <http://bnfc.org/> - they will be required to register.
Best wishes
