Dear Colleagues
Perhaps this message is a timely follow-on from the discussion of
quality of health information on the net.
We are currently developing the National Prostate Cancer Website. We
wish to establish an Editorial Group to help us ratify the quality of
information we include in the site. We are looking for experienced
information professionals and cancer specialists who may be able to
spare an hour or two per month and attend a meeting every 6 months or so.
If you, or anyone you know in your local institution, would be
interested in participating, please get in touch and I will send you
more information.
The aim of the project is to create a resource with:
• “intelligent signposting” to information about prostate cancer on the
internet;
• comprehensive coverage of all the information needed by the target
audience;
• rigorous and transparent assessments of the quality of that information.
In other words, we won't reinvent the wheel by creating more stuff about
prostate cancer; instead, we'll organise and assess what's already out
there and make it available under one roof.
The target audience of the site will be:
• people affected by prostate cancer, their families and immediate carers
• health professionals, including primary care and specialist
multiprofessional teams, who look after people with prostate cancer.
The project is supported by the Department of Health and the signatories
of the Prostate Cancer Charter for Action.
Many thanks
Douglas
