Dear Gordon
I agree heartily - the card was incomprehensible to library health professionals what hope the poor customers. Next time a think tank comes up with a brainwave like this perhaps they could consult with people who occasionally actually work with clinicians - of whom I doubt 1 in 10 know what an Athens username is - let alone every other item mentioned in the advert or card. A simple statement like "NHS Libraries in your local hospital on the web - a world of information at your finger tips or mouse click - with a list of URLs for each country and the country name underneath each would have done the job so much better. Or perhaps "Free Access to Electronic Journals for all NHS staff" and again URLs with countries - something customers and NHS library staff could get enthusiastic about.

But if it's a card, why not call it a card? And unless those who read
the advert can share in the pleasure (?) of finding a metaphor etc.,
etc., how on earth are they expected to know the Grid is only a card?

Ann - thank you for your explanation. Who's in charge of this scheme?

Subject: [LIS-MEDICAL] knowledge grid for health
Dear all
To clarify some of the discussion around this phrase:
The cards were produced as part of Health Libraries Week activities by
the 4-country, UK-wide working
group set up for that initiative, with representation from each of the
4 NHS e-Library services.
The term "Knowledge Grid" is simply a title for the card; the group
was
pleased to find a metaphor that reflects a positive interest in
cross-boundary working, but did not intend it to represent any
specific
strategy.
I know in Scotland an electronic copy of the card was distributed in
advance to the NHS librarian network; also a list of the journals in
which it would appear.
I hope this helps.
Kind regards
Ann
