This workshop explores the developing role of managers in information and library
services. It looks at managing staff in the context of rapidly changing circumstances,
achieving results through others by motivation, communication and delegation,
practical ways to deal with difficult situations, and managing professional and
personal development.
BY THE END OF THE EVENT PARTICIPANTS WILL HAVE:
· identified and explored the developing role of managers in information and
library services
· explored the key elements of managing staff in the context of rapidly changing
circumstances
· discovered how to achieve results through others, motivation, communication,
delegation and managing ourselves
· exchanged ideas and expertise
· started to prepare an action plan

Those who have recently been appointed or promoted into a management position,
those aspiring to be a manager.

Beryl is the Director of Hudson Rivers, which is a management and training
consultancy that helps organisations to improve their performance through training
and development of their staff. Beryl has worked at a senior level in higher education,
local government and industry.
