Dear All,
Many thanks to everyone who replied to my recent query about print management. I have certainly had some good suggestions that I will follow up. I have also had several emails from those in similar situations. I will keep those who asked informed as to the issues that arise as we progress with a solution.
To summarise the responses:
The EMOS system has come out top in popularity, and works with a card reader. This appears to be quite reasonable pricewise, and I was kindly supplied with the following contact info for them:

Two other systems were mentioned by name, Uniprint (from Info Technology Supply, www.itsltduk.com ) and PCCounter (from Altman Technologies, www.altman.co.uk ).
Those using the card reader type systems were all happy with the solution they offered, and cost savings appear to have been made. These type of systems would seem to cost in the region of £300 to £1000 per year. Of course the initial outlay for the equipment setup etc would be separate from this.
Several have suggested an alternative that we had not thought about, namely printing to the photocopier. I think the card reader systems will accomodate this also. We have a photocopier that is capable of networking in this way, but is controlled by coin and not card at the moment. However, as several people pointed out, the cost of photocopier printing is lower than laser printing.
I think this will be the route we go down, as we have the all-singing all-dancing copier available already. It will need connecting up, and then we will need to solve the problems of our generic logins, but we have certainly moved forward.
Many thanks to everyone who responded, all your comments were very helpful.
Regards,
Sarah
