I haven't seen anything yet on this list about the HEFCE document on
sustainable development, reported amongst elsewhere in the grauniad
http://www.hefce.ac.uk/pubs/hefce/2005/05_01/
It seems to me not sufficiently (almost not at all) to grasp the role of
libraries and information services in the construction of reality, or in
engineering social change
I'm going to put in a statement as chair of the national forum on
information planning but I wonder whether other parts of the apparatus might
be commenting too?
If I haven't commented yet, 2005 is the beginning of the UNESCO decade for
education for sustainable development, and UNESCO is the sort of
international body for the development of information concepts, and
involvement in the World Summit for the Information Society. There is in
Britain a UNESCO National Commission, and an education dialog group, set up
by WWF so anyone with enthusiasms for saving the planet type activities has
plenty of channels.
