There are still a few places left for this FREE event
ASLIB MIDLANDS INVITE YOU TO VISIT THE FIRE SERVICE COLLEGE, MORETON-IN-MARSH, GLOUCESTERSHIRE
THURSDAY 14TH APRIL 2005
11.00 AM to 1.00 PM
The College provides unique facilities for fire fighting, fire safety and accident emergency training and has probably the most comprehensive library on these subjects in the world. This FREE half-day visit, organised by Aslib Midlands Branch, will give you the opportunity to experience both.
You will be able to look round the Library and Information Resource Centre and hear from the staff what services they offer to their users, who range from staff at the College and students (including distance learners) to UK fire service members, commercial organisations and researchers. As well as a wealth of current material there is also an historical archive.
There will also be an opportunity to tour the site and see a variety of fires and accidents being staged. The incidents might involve road, rail, aircraft, shipping or chemical plant emergencies - we can't guarantee exactly what you'll be seeing on the day!
We will meet for coffee from 11.00 am onwards, with the site tour taking place at 11.30 am. This will be followed by the visit to the Library and Information Resource Centre. Afterwards you are welcome to stay to have lunch in the subsidised canteen and/or have a more detailed look at the Resource Centre and its online resources.
The College is situated in the heart of the Cotswolds, within easy reach of the M5 and M40 motorways. It is close to Stratford, Worcester, Oxford and Stow-on-the-Wold. It is about one and a quarter hour's drive from Birmingham. Moreton-in-Marsh is also on a main railway line between Hereford and Paddington. There is a train from the Hereford/Worcester direction arriving at 11.21 am and a train from the Oxford/Paddington direction arriving at 11.19 am. Transport can be arranged to and from the station. Alternatively, we might be able to arrange car sharing if you indicate on the booking form that you are interested.
More about the College and its location can be found at www.fireservicecollege.ac.uk. Further instructions will be given to you when you book.
