Hi
Another plea for information.
We at York currently put books into our Key Texts collection (Short Loan) as
requested by academics. However, because of the growth in student numbers
and because of space problems we would like to give ground rules about how
many books we will put into the collection. We have "4 hour" loan periods.
We are interested to find out how other libraries handle this so would be
very grateful for answers to the following and I will collate the answers
for the list.
1. How many students have to be doing a course before you will put books in
Short Loan?
2. Who decides which books will go in Short Loan?
3. What is the maximum number of books you will put in Short Loan for any
one course?
Is this the same for all courses or would you vary it for any
subjects?
Or does the maximum number of books depend on how many students are
doing a course?
4. How many copies of a book will you put in Short Loan? Do you use a
ratio to the number of students?
5. Do you put books in Short Loan for taught postgraduates as well as
undergraduates?
6. Do you use any other parameters?
7. Do you have more than one loan period for Short Loans eg. some 4 hours,
some 24 hours?
8. Any other comments?
Many thanks for your help,
Jane Henley
