a) EBSCO Agreement renewal
----------------------------
The Agreement with EBSCO for their various databases has been extended for a further 3 years to 30th September 2008. Sites currently subscribing will need to sign new licence forms in order to continue. Although the new subscription period does not start until 1st October 2005 it would be helpful, both for Eduserv Chest and for EBSCO, if sites could complete and return their licences (2 completed licences please) as soon as possible. The usual invoice date is 1st July so we would appreciate it if we can have returned licences before then.
As before, there are different subscription options with pricing to reflect this. The options, both for HE and FE, are: 1. to subscribe for the full three years with prices for 'up-front' payment or annual payments; 2. to subscribe for 2 years with either 'up-front' payment or annual payments, followed by an optional third subscription year; 3. to subscribe on an annual basis.
Full pricing details, as well as the licence forms may be found at: <http://www.eduserv.org.uk/chest/datasets/ebsco/> (for Higher Education) <http://www.eduserv.org.uk/chest/datasets/ebsco-fe/> (for Further Education Colleges)

Renewal of Web of Science and Licensing Back-files - FAQ
1- Renewal
When can I inform JISC of our intention to renew?
This can be done at any time by completing the sub-license <http://www.jisc.ac.uk/webofscience.html>
Do we have to re-subscribe to Web of Science for 5 years?
No, this is a 5 year agreement but there is a break after 3 years should your institution wish to come out of the agreement.
Are we able to sign up for 5 years?
Yes this is possible; please note this on the sub-license and arrangements will be made to ensure access is continued through to the end of the agreement.
When can we make the first payment?
The first payment can be made any time after you have confirmed your order. Thomson Scientific will need your order by 31st July 2005 to ensure seamless migrated access upon renewal on 1 October
When do we get access to the new service?
All institutions will have 'dual access' to the existing MIMAS service and the new Web of Knowledge service by 11th May. This will run until 1st October providing users and library staff with the opportunity to become familiar with the new interface before the start of the 2005 autumn term The Web of Knowledge service will then be run directly from Thomson Scientific servers for renewing institutions and the MIMAS service switched off.
UK users will now have access to the most up-to-date version of Web of Knowledge at all times.
The dual access will be available via <http://wok.mimas.ac.uk> and users will be authenticated by Athens and IP address where provided.
2-Back-files
What is the back-file agreement?
JISC have purchased additional Web of Science back-files for the whole UK community. This consists of:

Please note: subscribers who have already purchased access to these files have the following years covered: SCI 1945-1980; SSCI 1956-1980; AHCI 1975-1980.
How do I get access?
Access will be granted once institutions return the sub-license agreement <http://www.jisc.ac.uk/webofscience2.html> to JISC
When are these back-files available?
Back-files are available immediately, all Institutions are eligible.
Do I have to sign up to the renewal and back-file at same time?
No, institutions can sign up for the back-files now without making a firm decision on the renewal.
Do I have to pay for the 1970-1980 back-files?
No, this has been provided by the JISC.
If I renew the Web of Science agreement will I still have access to these back-files?

c) The Inspec Archive
---------------------
This announcement will be of interest to colleagues in Engineering especially, so please feel free to forward as appropriate.
The Inspec Archive (1898 - 1968) was recently added to Eduserv Chest's very popular Agreement with the Institute of Electrical Engineers (IEE) for Inspec & IEE Online Journals.
Chest Sites can pay a one-time fee to purchase the raw data file of the Archive in perpetuity. They can then choose to pay a small annual access fee to the Service Provider of their choice in order to make the data easily searchable. As with Inspec, Sites do not have to commit for more than one year to any one Service Provider and they can change their chosen Service Provider on 1st September each year with notice to Chest before 1st June.
Full details of all Inspec Archive Service Providers covered by the Chest Agreement can be found here:
<http://www.eduserv.org.uk/chest/datasets/iee/archive_sp_information.html>
The price of the Inspec Archive currently starts at £7880 +VAT as a one off payment. Two and three year payment options are also available, and there is also an annual rental option for those Sites that do not want to purchase the data in perpetuity.
Prices will increase after 1st September 2005, so act now for the best deal.
Full pricing information can be found here:
<http://www.eduserv.org.uk/chest/datasets/iee/overview.html#TofC29>
