Demonstrating the Value and Impact made by Public Libraries

The Libraries Impact Project conducted by PwC on behalf of the Laser
Foundation will be publicising its results and methodologies on 4th
July.

An event to launch the results and discuss the findings is being held at
One Great George Street, Westminster, London, on the morning of 4th July
commencing with brunch at approximately 9.30am, the seminar programme
commencing at 10.30am.

Key note speaker David Bell (HMCI), will discuss the Relevance of
Libraries in Society and their Impact on the Shared Priorities. And
Professor Mark Hepworth, Visiting Professor of Economic Geography at
Birkbeck College and Director of the Local Futures Group, will discuss
the Impact of Libraries in the Knowledge Economy.

This will be followed by a presentation from PwC and the pilot public
libraries that participated in the work. Cheryl Coppell, Chief Executive
of Slough will discuss the experience of Slough in participating as a
Pilot Authority.

Other contributors from Local Authorities, the Audit Commission, Local
and National Government will discuss the importance of Value and Impact
Measures and how this important work can be developed and used to best
advantage by the public library sector.

The work includes (and will be discussed at the seminar):-

*
        How to develop and use measures to enable a library service to
identify its impact on four of the shared priorities
*
        Linking the measures which have been developed to library
activities in the relevant shared priority areas as well as to central
and local government policies and targets
*
        Supporting local authorities in developing local measures in
line with likely Audit Commission requirements
*
        The work demonstrates how to use measures locally, drawing on
the experience of pilot public libraries, in showing libraries' impact
on wider policy areas affecting the shared priorities. This is
underpinned by the development of methodologies to show how to implement
the measures locally in other library authorities.

This work offers practical evidence and help on how libraries'
contributions to a number of policy areas can be assessed and
demonstrated. It offers a transferable framework for the adoption by
other local authorities, to reflect the distinctive contribution that
libraries make and support the development of an increasingly powerful
evidence base to demonstrate at national level how libraries can have a
significant influence on the delivery of wider government priorities and
the achievement of related targets.

Copies of the final work will be available to all attending the seminar.

Attendance at this important seminar is free, but places are limited.
To reserve your place email Sandra Horgan at :-
