Hi all,
I am in the process of gathering information for a business report and as
part of this am trying to find out how other libraries manage/monitor their
reservations processes. I'd appreciate feedback on the questions listed
below and will, of course summarise responses for the list.
1. Do you limit the number of concurrent reservations a borrower can place?
2. Do you restrict the reservations facility to borrowers in good standing
- no overdues, fines etc?
3. How long do you keep items on the hold shelf for?
4. Do you set a mandatory 'last useful date' on the OPAC and if so how many
days do you use as a default?
5. What percentage of your reservations 'lapse' - are not collected by the
borrower?
6. Do you sanction borrowers who don't collect their reservations? (a
thorny one this one but it'll be interesting to find out what the response
is)
7. Do you place reservations for items that can't be found on the shelf
and, if so, do you then shelf check them?
8. What is your staff error rate at the counter- i.e. how many are missed
and go back onto the open shelves?
9. On average, how many reservations do you handle weekly during term time?
10. What is the average satisfaction time - i.e. how long does a borrower
generally have to wait to get the book they've reserved.
Thanks very much in advance and apologies for the number of questions!
