Hello, I just wanted to raise a CILIP issue here as I'm pretty sure that many more CILIP members are on this list than on
lis-cilip. Apologies to non-CILIP members.
Are people aware that CILIP Council are going to vote on Thursday on whether to amalgamate certain Special Interest Groups, eg CDG
with PTEG, or UCR with CoFHE and ELG, and several other "clusters"?
A consultation with membership drew an 11% response in Spring, and led to 2 options being put to Council. Whether to reduce the
number of groups by clustering them into communities of interest, or whether to be led by market forces.
Personally I feel some proposed mergers have some merit, and others are for convenience only with potential detrimental effects,
but the strangest thing is that membership should not be consulted before Council votes on Thursday. The Groups themselves have
been consulted, but discussion with the wider CILIP community has been patchy...
On lis-cilip I was told that I'm being represented by my group and/or branch councillor. This is all very well for me, I am on a
committee so I know that I need to contact them and make my views known, but what about people not on committees who are still
members?
Anyway, just wondered what other people thought about this. And wanted to say perhaps people could contact their branch/group
councillor to raise concerns about not being informed/ consulted; even if you can't comment on the actual issue if you've not been
told about it.
Best wishes
Laura
