Many thanks to everyone who replied to my quick survey earlier this week
about systems staff in Universities.
For those of you who enquired about the weather - the snow which covered
Aberdeen this morning has all but disappeared, though I'm sure there is
still plenty of it outside the city!
35 institutions replied to the survey, of these 23 did not have converged
services and 12 either had converged or partially converged services.
Of the 23 libraries that were not converged:
21 of the systems teams report either directly to the Librarian or
indirectly (e.g. via Deputy Librarian or Head of Technical Services)
1 systems team reports to the ICT Director
1 systems team is split between the Librarian and the IT Director
Of the 12 libraries that were part of a converged service:
10 systems teams report directly or indirectly to the Librarian
2 systems teams report to someone else within the converged service
Of the 7 CURL libraries who replied - all were non-converged services and
all reported directly or indirectly to the Librarian, and they are included
in the figures above.
Thanks again,
Anne Beavan
p.s. I'm sure you will all have guessed why I asked the question! Aberdeen
is currently in the process of de-converging, and for the time being the
Library Systems team will be under the overall line management of the
Director of IT (not yet appointed).
