researching Asian companies
NEW
This is a new advanced level course designed to be a really up to date
survey of researching the pan-Asian corporate sector.
Doing any business information search on Asian companies has always been
tricky. Even in the days before the breakdown of communism and the many
troubled command economies of the region, it was difficult to group
countries into logical units for research projects, track down English
language sources and assess their reliability. This course covers the
background and knowledge on Asian companies required for effective pan-Asian
company projects, as well as surveying the sources available.
speaker: Sylvia James
course fee: £325.00 + VAT (£381.88) includes buffet lunch and refreshments.

compelling communications: radical communications techniques for information
professionals In this fast moving world of information overload, grabbing
and holding your audience's attention is critical to getting your message
across. For the information professional, this is particularly important.
You know what it's like; you have critical messages to be heard but as the
world becomes more information focused, it has been difficult for your
professional message to shine out from amidst the rest. This one day
workshop will introduce you to leading edge communications techniques which
will help you achieve real impact as you speak and write - ensuring that
your message is the one that stands out.
speaker: Adrian Dale
course fee: £295.00 + VAT (£346.63) includes buffet lunch and refreshments.

embedding and Sustaining Knowledge Management Many organisations
implementing knowledge management are looking for ways to ensure that the
success from their activities is sustainable, and ultimately becomes part of
"the way we do business around here". Drawing from his experience in BP's
renowned KM team, his best-selling book "Learning to Fly" and his recent
role as Centrica's Director of Change and Knowledge Management, Chris
Collison leads this practical workshop suitable for knowledge practitioners
at all stages of their implementation journey.
Chris uses examples of how existing company processes and leadership
behaviours can be "infected" to ensure that knowledge management becomes an
"unconscious competence". He also explains in detail the concept of
"knowledge-based benchmarking". This innovative approach combines
benchmarking, performance management and knowledge-sharing to reverse the
defensive "not-invented-here" culture which performance league tables and
benchmarking often generate. Delegates will receive hands-on training in
this highly transferable technique, proven in public and private sector and
including an electronic tool to enable them to apply the technique quickly
in their own organisations, and a signed copy of the new edition of
"Learning to Fly.

strategic information architecture design: building the platform for
corporate delivery This one day masterclass introduces information and
knowledge managers to the principles of information architecture design and
their impact on corporate strategy. Information resources are increasingly
critical corporate assets but most organisations fail to capitalise on their
value because the resources are badly organised and relatively inaccessible.
Now more than ever, it is vital that all corporate information resources are
connected into a coherent framework for management, navigation and access.
Information and knowledge managers need to drive this convergence and this
workshop gives them the tools.
Very few organisations achieve truly effective coordination of the many
information systems that live on their networks today. In spite of many
years of investment, incompatible islands of information still exist and
chaotic information overload is a reality. And yet web environments were
supposed to change all of this. Unfortunately, many web sites have not yet
repaid their initial investment and yet are becoming even more complex in an
effort to integrate everything. Similarly, intranets have either become
bloated and unwieldy or have died a slow death because of the high cost of
maintenance. In both cases - there is huge business potential going
untapped. The cause of these problems is poor information architecture - the
absence of a solid foundation on which effective knowledge and information
systems can be built.
This workshop will help you make a solid case for developing a coherent
information architecture for your organisation. With your new understanding,
you'll be able to create convincing arguments for your board discussions and
you'll be able to paint a very clear picture of how you'll deliver early
benefits that will repay the investment.

developing a business information classification scheme as stipulated by ISO
15489 This one day course offers an introduction to a method of preparing an
information classification scheme based upon business processes, for setting
corporate policies e.g. for records retention. This technique, developed
over the last fifteen years, solves many of the practical problems faced by
records managers by ensuring that records management policies are completely
matched with business needs and that records management supports the overall
business objectives of the organisation. The speaker will discuss how this
method (as stipulated in ISO 15489) solves many longstanding problems
created by other methods of information classification.
