competitive intelligence: an introduction to the art of studying competitors
Competitive intelligence is the process by which companies inform themselves
about every aspect of the competitive environment in which they operate and
the resources, activities and performance of the rivals they currently
compete with, or could compete with in the future. No commercial battle can
be fought without intelligence on your competitors and the accuracy and
timeliness of the intelligence will have a determining influence on the
outcome of the engagement. This one day course is designed to provide
insight into the value competitive intelligence programs have in class
leading companies in the US and Europe. Emphasis will be given to specific
examples in sales and marketing where competitive intelligence was
successfully used to support tactical and strategic decision-making.

introduction to corporate finance
This two day course provides an introduction to corporate finance relevant
to the needs of information specialists required to carry out business
research in the area of business funding and investment. Corporate finance
presents particular difficulties for the researcher in terms of the sheer
range of topics it embraces, the complexity of much of its subject matter
and the extensive use of jargon by practitioners.
Day one concentrates on the financial markets and the sources of funding
available to business. The second day investigates decisions and risk
management together with mergers and acquisitions.
Throughout the two days, the content is illustrated with recent reports in
the financial press enabling delegates to relate the theory to the business
world.

successfully marketing your information service: intermediate How do you
communicate your range of Information Services to your clients? Do you know
who your clients are? It can be expensive letting them know what you can
provide and the mediums through which they can use it, especially if you're
not even talking to the right people.
The Chartered Institute of Marketing defines marketing as follows:
"Marketing is the management process responsible for identifying,
anticipating and satisfying customer requirements profitably."
The principles of consumer goods marketing can be applied very effectively
in the modern Information Centre and can transform its impact and the
perception of its services. This one day course explores the various ways
you can raise your profile and successfully market your Information Service.
