MAKING KNOWLEDGE VISIBLE - FOR INFORMATION MANAGERS

8 NOVEMBER 2005, LONDON

Information products are the products, in any medium, which make knowledge visible to us. They are where users meet the information they need, and gain access to the knowledge of others. It is also what library and information managers manage.

 <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

All organisations create information products of their own. Without them, little business would get done inside organizations or between them and the outside world. They are vital for the flow, exchange, application, and preservation of information and knowledge. To gain maximum value from them, organisations need to draw on the professional knowledge and skills of library and information managers - though few as yet do so.

BENEFITS OF ATTENDING

This workshop is a great opportunity to get acquainted with this new territory and to plan how you can use your existing skills and knowledge to gain a place in it.

BY THE END OF THE EVENT PARTICIPANTS WILL:

* analyse what their organisation's information products should be doing to help it achieve whatever it's in business for; and to provide the users with the information they need to their job

* demonstrated an understanding of the unique and invaluable contribution that their professional knowledge can make to their organisation's information product

* evaluated what they themselves have to offer which can add value to their organisation's information products

* planned some action for themselves

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

Experienced library and information managers who wish to establish a role for themselves in Knowledge Management (KM) and are interested in applying their professional skills in a new area which is critical for both KM and information management (IM)

WORKSHOP LEADER: LIZ ORNA

Liz has been an independent information consultant, writer and lecturer since 1979. She combines practical experience with writing and teaching designed to help practitioners in their work. Her Practical Information Policies, (Ed 2 Gower 1999) has become a classic in its field. Information Strategy in Practice, a short practical text, (Gower 2004) brings the treatment of information auditing up to date in the light of recent experience. A copy of the book Making Knowledge Visible will be included in the fee.
