Subject: Schole
Reading last night, I had pointed out to me the origin of the word
school is leisure and learning, both.
I checked a modern dictionary with a modern spelling, and indeed the
word means leisure, and is from the greek, though how you decide this is
another matter.
For the point of what I was reading was that the origin of many words,
such as schole meaning leisure and learning is actually from the
Egyption. And the point is that egyptian got blanked out as part of the
development of empire and racism to promote slavery.
Then the point was made that indogermanic as a root language is another
example, and actually means Egyptian.
Considering I have been looking at infopolecon for nearly forty years, I
was fairly staggered that I had never thought of the construction of
dictionaries, though I had rumbled library catalogues a long time ago.
So whenever anyone asks what you mean by institutionalised racism, you
can simply say, "Look in the dictionary." they will say, "It isn't
there", and you can say, "Oh, yes it is.: :)
Now of course all this might be absolute nonsense but given we are in
the UNESCO decade of education for sustainable development, and next
years theme is cultural diversity, and this is the year of Africa, it is
a nice chance to warm things up.
