** Apologies for cross posting **
Hello,
With recent changes to how local authorities are organised we were
wondering if subject librarians/information professionals and
researchers working in Higher Education, research, government and other
libraries/information units would be interested in an email discussion
list on Children's Services to share expertise, ideas, best practice etc
(probably through Jiscmail).
The Government's aim, as stated in the Children Act 2004, is for every
child - whatever their background or circumstances - is to have the
support they need to:
* be healthy
* stay safe
* enjoy and achieve through learning
* make a positive contribution to society
* achieve economic well-being
Many of the changes in legislation will have an impact on how we manage
and develop our information services. At NFER, our focus will move from
being mostly education related and whilst our information service has
great deal of expertise in education, the other areas are less well
known to us. We thought that a discussion list would be helpful to
librarians/information workers to provide opportunities to access
information sources in related areas and share subject knowledge and
expertise.
We have identified the following subject areas within Children's
Services that librarians/information providers might be interested in:
* Education
* Social siences, Social policy/administration
* Social Work
* Adoption/carers
* Crime/Youth offending
* Youth support services
* Health & social care
If you think that such a list would be useful and you would join or have
any ideas for contributions, please let me know and we will contact
Jiscmail to explore setting up a list.
Regards
