The modern and well equipped Library at the University of Winchester houses a collection of almost 250,000 books, videos and sound recordings and receives some 850 journals. This stock covers all the subjects offered by the University, as well as many fields of general interest to serve the 5,000 students and 500 staff of the University. We are looking to recruit four members of staff to the following posts;
ASSISTANT LIBRARIANS
£15,973 to £17,454 per annum
Up to £19,073 available for an exceptional candidate
The University has recently moved to a three Faculty structure and we are seeking to recruit two full time Assistant Librarians, one to liaise with the Faculty of Arts and the other with the Faculty of Social Sciences. As well as advice and enquiry work, collection development and the preparation of printed and electronic publications, you will be actively involved in delivering induction programmes, research skills sessions, attending meetings, and liaising closely with administrators and academics in your Faculty. You will also provide support for web-based learning and resources.
As our ideal candidate you will be a qualified librarian, ideally with chartered status. Knowledge of electronic library systems, internet and IT systems are essential for this post, as well as experience of library work. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work without supervision and as part of a team are also essential.
Hours of work
Full time, 37 hours per week, with the requirement to work one evening to 9pm.

LIBRARY ASSISTANTS
£12,242 to £13,778pa, pro rata

* Full time Library Assistant: 37 hours per week with the requirement to work one evening to 9pm. Post No: SLIB03F
* Part-time Library Assistant: 27.5 hours per week, 33 weeks per year to include Saturday 9-5pm, 4 hours on a Sunday, and one evening to 9pm. Post No: SLIB03P
As a Library Assistant you will assist with counter service, shelving, processing new books and other materials, as well as undertaking responsibility for a specialised area. Previous experience of working within a Library is not essential but you must have experience of dealing with the public. Experience of dealing with students would be a bonus. Educated to a good standard, you will be computer literate and have the ability to work as part of a team as well as on your own initiative.
