I should have made it clear in my earlier comment that I doubt an ERA
licence would help as the inquiry was about making TV programmes accessible
to staff, not to students.

Chris,
Re licencing issues, the ERA has recently announced that changes to the
terms of the licence (which come into effect on 1st April 2005) will
encompass material that is digitised and stored on a central server (for
registered users and password protected). There are still restrictions in
accessing this material off campus, which ERA say they are looking to cover
towards the end of the year.
For more detail, I suggest http://www.era.org.uk/New_Regulations.html , or

Subject: Licensing for TV programmes
Hi,
Could anyone please advise me whether it would be possible to record TV
programmes through a TV tuner card on a PC and then make them accessible to
staff on a central server? What are the licensing implications of this?
Thanks
Chris
