a) Encyclopedia of Life Sciences Online
b)  Reminders
c)  ConsultGEE
d)  Music and Drama
e)  Electronic books
f)   Latest Data Wishes

a) Encyclopedia of Life Sciences Online
--------------------------------------

The final year of the special offer for the Encyclopedia of Life Sciences Online has just started (1st August). Details of this offer and the special pricing for both HE and FE may be found at <http://www.eduserv.org.uk/chest/datasets/els/>. Although not currently accessible via Athens, it is hoped this will be possible at the end of September (see below).

The Encyclopedia of Life Sciences is a unique and dynamic resource that covers the entire range of life sciences research. It highlights structures, processes, methods, systems and applications across the biological and biomedical sciences. With 6,000 color illustrations, 30,000 internal cross-references and 30,000 external bibliographic references for further reading ELSdirects undergraduates, graduate students and researchers to the next level of research.

Since Wiley acquired this Encyclopedia in December 2004:
- 111 new or updated articles have been added;
- next month, 150 new or updated articles will be added and 200 articles from the Encyclopedia of the Human Genome (EHG);
- in December this year, 200 new ELS articles and 400 EHG articles will be added;
- at the end of September Wiley hopes to have Athens authentication via the InterScience site, although the resource will remain on NPG servers in the short-term.

b) Reminders
-------------

Apologies for these reminders if you have already responded but sites need to return new licence forms for the following agreements:

PsycINFO - if you have not sent in new licence forms you are in danger of having the service cut off. The new agreement period started on 1st August. Licence forms available from <http://www.eduserv.org.uk/chest/datasets/apa/>.

CSA Collections - this new agreement starts on 1st September. Current subscribers to the CSA Core Collection via JISC need to complete new forms for the new Chest Agreement. All details and Licence forms available from <http://www.eduserv.org.uk/chest/datasets/all-csa/>.

EBSCO databases - the new Agreement period does not start until 1st October but it will help both Chest and EBSCO if you can send in your new licence forms as soon as possible. Licence forms available from <http://www.eduserv.org.uk/chest/datasets/ebsco/> (for HE) and <http://www.eduserv.org.uk/chest/datasets/ebsco-fe/> (for FE).

c) ConsultGEE
--------------

In the data-messenger sent on 22nd July 2005 we called for expressions of interest in Consult GEE; the 24/7 online and telephone information service that provides legal expertise and best practice guidance across a wide range of subject areas. Thank you to everyone who has responded so far.

There was an error in the link to the supplier's web page on our web page; this has now been corrected.

You can find details here <http://www.consultgee.co.uk/education/hr/overview/>

We are sorry for any inconvenience caused.

Please have another look and let us know what you think. <http://www.eduserv.org.uk/chest/future-agreements/eoi/data_eoi.html>

d) Music and Drama
-------------------

Does your University/College have Music or Drama departments? If so, you may be interested in two Agreements just starting their second year:

Classical Music Library - see <http://www.eduserv.org.uk/chest/datasets/classical/> - pricing for year 2 just £670 + VAT for a 3 user licence (you are able to purchase additional blocks of 3 concurrent users for £670 + VAT for each block of 3).

Unlike other resources on the Web, Classical Music Library is the only audio service that is developed exclusively with the needs of librarians in mind. It's a dedicated library resource offering music licensed from major labels, built on a musically authoritative database that is structured around works and performances rather than CDs, giving users a much more powerful interface for searching and browsing the music.

Full details of the Classical Music Library are available at <http://alexanderstreet.com/products/clmu.htm>

Alexander Street Press Drama Collection - see <http://www.eduserv.org.uk/chest/datasets/alexander/> - annual site licence pricing for all 5 databases £1,770 + VAT (HE) or £460 + VAT (FE) (with options to subscribe to individual databases). The full text of plays and film scripts is included as well as associated materials.

Databases included in Agreement:
* Asian American Drama - With 250 plays, this is a landmark collection in a rapidly developing genre;
* American Film Scripts Online - of interest to researchers in sociology, psychology, popular culture, writing, film studies, and history;
* Black Drama - The project brings together 1,200 plays, almost a quarter of which are previously unpublished;
* Latino Literature: Poetry, Drama and Fiction - Scholars in social history, literature, and Latino studies will find value in Latino Literature;
* North American Women's Drama - Relevant for the study of literature, women's studies, and the history of feminism.

Information about these databases may be found on the Chest web site and additional information at <http://www.alexanderstreetpress.com/products/index.htm>

e) Electronic books
------------------

As you may remember, Eduserv Chest is currently looking at the area of electronic books. We are particularly keen to hear from any sites which have subscriptions for e-books, or is considering subscribing to e-books in the near future. We would like to thank those of you who have contacted us in so far. If anyone else has any feedback on this area, which they would like to share with us, we would be very pleased to hear from you. The areas which are of particular interest to us can be found here <http://www.eduserv.org.uk/chest/messenger/mess22-07-05-data.html#6>

Please email <mailto:[log in to unmask]> with any feedback, comments or suggestions.
