A must for anyone who needs to set up a library or an information centre from scratch, this workshop covers all the key issues involved, from information auditing, and acquisitions policy, to budgeting, specialist classification systems and evaluating computer packages for the smaller unit.
BY THE END OF THE EVENT PARTICIPANTS WILL HAVE:
* learned how to conduct an information audit within their organisation
* put together an acquisitions policy based upon the information audit
* identified the key issues around specialist classification, cataloguing systems and thesauri for the smaller
library/information service
* assessed database needs and explored the suitability of options available for storage and retrieval of information
* considered policies and procedures that will ensure good resource management issues
* explored issues affecting "solo" workers

Kathy is a qualified librarian and information manager with over seven year's experience of research and fundraising within the voluntary sector.
SPECIAL NOTES
This workshop is designed to help beginners with all the issues involved in setting up small specialist information units. However, it does not deal with library management issues and is not suitable for experienced librarians or those studying for a library/information skills qualification.
