E-journals and E-Books versus traditional print material-How does this affect ILL departments?
Resource-sharing/library co-operation schemes-A good idea?
Interlending-An outmoded service?
Who doesn't have something to say on the e-resources/print material debate? How about e-resources in context as resource-sharing materials? What impact do licensing agreements have on access to materials ? Can/should licence agreements be more flexible? What about the impact of the 'big deals' on stock acquisition? Why hold print and e-copies of the item? What should be done with redundant hard copy items? Is there scope in smaller institutions for individual stock repositories or should schemes such as CASS be extended?
What about the debate regarding reciprocal agreements between libraries? Should greater cooperation be encouraged or discouraged? Do you have personal experience of cooperation or resource-sharing schemes that you would like to share? Have you any thoughts on the practicalities of resource-sharing I.e. finance, marketing etc?
Is the ILL department a back-room job that just 'kind of happens'? If so, what can be done about this by ILL practitioners? Is it the star-player in your LIS or LRC? If so, how did you achieve this? How is your department viewed within your organisation? How are you supported by your organisations management? Where do you see the future of ILL? Is there still a need for ILL departments when many readers have access to google scholar, BLdirect etc? How (if it has) has your role moved from a practical one to an advisory one? What impact has this had on your day-to-day work? Have you received training in ILL? Is this ongoing? Do you organise training for ILL? How (if it is) is this worked into staff development sessions at work?
If these or any other issues regarding ILL and information delivery have been gnawing away at you and you'd like to share your experiences with the ILL community, why not jot them down & send them to us? The FIL newsletter is a small serial aimed at reflecting the experiences of ILL practitioners and of informing them of new developments. We are looking for submissions for our next and future issues and want to hear from as many of you as possible. If you have something to say (long, max 500 words, or short, min 150 words !) send your copy to me (Lorna Whitebrook) - <mailto:[log in to unmask]> [log in to unmask] We're waiting to hear from you!
Thanks,
